The government of Baden-Württemberg wants to reduce the number of animals used for scientific and educational purposes. A prize is announced to award research projects, which contribute to the replacement of animal experiments or to the reduction of the burdens of the animals in the area of science and education, as well as in the field of medical diagnostics and the testing of substances and products. The works have to conduce to the realization of the following aims:
- Replacement of animal experiments
- Reduction of the number of animals used for a certain appraisal
- Reduction of suffering, pain or harm ("Refinement")
- Improvement of the husbandry of laboratory animals ("Enrichment").
- Persons, working at Institutions in Baden-Württemberg, can be awarded.

Goal is referring to the 3R-principles of Russel and Burch (1959) (Replacement, Reduction, Refinement) to restrict the animal performed in research, to replace them and - as possible - to avoid them. Furthermore, the suffering, pain or harm in animal experiments has to be reduced.
* Institutions, companies and scientists working at Institutions in Berlin and Brandenburg can be awarded, if they plan oder realize scientific projects by develope oder validate methods capable of:
- replace animal experiments ("Replacement"),
- reduce the amount of laboratory animalos ("Reduce") and/or
- reduce the suffering of laboratory animals ("Refinement").
Furthermore, an already finished project can get submitted if it have been achieved one of the three objectives described above. The price is up to 15.000 EURO.
The price can be split among awardees. The price will be awarded by the Berlin Government of Health, Environment and Consumer Protection at the suggestion an undependend jury of experts.

Doctors Against Animal Experiments Germany are awarding a 10.000 euro science prize for animal-free cancer research. Supported/awarded will be outstanding scientific work carried out without the use of animal materials, as well as clinical or epidemiological studies. It may be awarded retrospectively for completed or current research or as an initial incentive for a planned project. The Federal Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Consumer Protection (Bundesministerium für Ernährung, Landwirtschaft und Verbraucherschutz BMELV) supports with this 15.000 Euro award the contribution for the further development of pharmacological-toxicological research methods, e.g. the determination of the acute, subcronic and cronic toxicity, the carcinogenic, mutagenic, reproductive toxicity or harming fruit properties, further usefull effects.

The European Partnership for Alternative Approaches to Animal Testing (EPAA), a cooperation between the European Commission and industry from various sectors, is organising for the second time its Science Award, worth up to 100 000 €.
The award is offered by the EPAA in order to support the optimization and regulatory acceptance of 3R methods. The award provides young scientists with the opportunity to cooperate with experienced scientists from various industry sectors and the European Commission.
The award is intended for a scientist based in Europe with not more than 8 years post-graduate experience. Professional involvement in the 3Rs will be an asset in the application. Applications from academic, industrial, NGO or governmental backgrounds are welcome.

CAAT Recognition Award
This award, presented at every World Congress, honors an individual or organization who has made an outstanding contribution to the field of the 3Rs, the development of alternative methods, or the field of in vitro science.
Henry Spira Award
This award was established in 1999 to honor the memory of Henry Spira, a pioneer in the animal rights movement whose campaign for the use of alternative methods led to the founding of CAAT. It was created to honor animal activists in the animal welfare, protection, or rights movements who
work to achieve progress through dialogue and collaboration.
